Beach
There is plenty of room on the wide beach for blokarters, kite flyers and walkers. And after the exertion, relaxation follows in one of the beach pavilions that are open all year round.
Zuid-Kennemerland National Park
Cycle or walk into the dunes of the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. You might even come across Velsen’s big five during your adventure. Whereas the landscape is formed by forests of old beech and oak trees at the edge of the village centres, hikers and cyclists will encounter rough sand drifts further on in the dune area. Dune tops where mewing buzzards fly high above in search of their prey.
Spaarnwoude
Enjoy all the greenery and space in Spaarnwoude Recreation Area by bike, on foot or from the water. This area is so diverse that one day is not enough. Cycle routes, climbing walls, canoe ponds and visitors can even drive off-road. Or down the white slope by tying on a snowboard or skis.
Estates and village of Velsen
Various cycling and walking routes also lead visitors through and past the Beeckestijn and Velserbeek country estates. Places where people can catch their breath and relax in the peaceful woods around them.
Sea lock IJmuiden
The largest sea lock in the world, Zeesluis IJmuiden, is currently under construction. Therefore, the locks are currently not passable for cyclists and walkers. To cross the North Sea Canal, cyclists and walkers can make free use of the ferry at Pontplein in Velsen-Zuid.
