Restaurants in Velsen

Eating and drinking at more than 50 places

The municipality of Velsen has more than 50 restaurants, lunchrooms and brasseries where you can eat and drink. The choice is enormous! From fresh fish to a nice piece of meat or a vegetarian dish. Enjoy your meal!

IJmuiden

You eat North Sea fish in IJmuiden, of course. Here, it can happen that the fish landed at the auction in the morning is on your plate a few hours later. It could hardly be fresher! There are four excellent fish restaurants in the harbour: De IJmond, Gerard van Es, De Meerplaats and Kop van de Haven. At the recently opened Viskade, you can enjoy a roll of herring, kibbeling or other fried fish. The best sushi in the Netherlands is at Hokkai Kitchen in Egmondstraat. In the centre of IJmuiden, most restaurants are located at Plein 1945, where several terraces are located during the summer. Here you will find, among others, the popular Grand Café Staal.

IJmuiden at Sea

At beach pavilions and beach clubs in IJmuiden at Sea and on the Noorderstrand, you can go for a drink, lunch or dinner. The menus are characterised by a good price/quality ratio and the atmosphere everywhere is as you would expect on the beach: relaxed. Of course fish is on the menu everywhere! On the Kennemerboulevard you will find several restaurants, a cafeteria and an ice cream parlour.

Velsen-Zuid

Velsen-Zuid stretches from IJmuiden to Amsterdam and has a large number of restaurants. In Dorp Velsen, the oldest core of the municipality of Velsen, you can enjoy a meal at De Heeren van Velsen. At Buitenplaats Waterland, you will find Plantage Rococo, which opened in 2020. A little further on, you will find the hospitable Brasserie Beeckestijn. In the Spaarnwoude recreation area, you will find De Heuvel (at SnowWorld), Onder de Platanen, Graan voor Visch (at Golfbaan Spaarnwoude), Eethuys 1883 (Droompark Buitenhuizen), Fletcher Hotel and Villa Zomerdijk.

Driehuis

Driehuis is home to one of the best-known ice cream shops in the Netherlands. The IJspaleis is open ten months a year and on hot days it is often very busy. A little further on towards the church, you will find Café Middeloo and Grand Café Valerius, directly opposite each other. Here you can enjoy a good special beer or have a bite to eat. Driehuis even has its own beer: De Roode Casteleyn, named after pub landlord Ruud Gerrits, who died in 2016.

Velserbroek

Would you like to enjoy culinary delights at one of the most beautiful locations in Velsen? Then go to Villa Westend. This restaurant has its own beach at the Westbroekplas. You can have a great lunch and dinner here, but sitting down for a drink when the sun goes down is also highly recommended! With a Chinese restaurant, a cafeteria and several specialty shops, Winkelcentrum Velserbroek is a great place to eat.

Santpoort-Noord

The most famous hotel in Santpoort-Noord is Landgoed Duin- en Kruidberg. The estate has a large number of hotel rooms, a spa and various meeting facilities. In the Hoofdstraat, you will find cosy restaurants such as De Bank, ‘t Palet, Ramsis, La Mia and De Meierij, as well as various cafés. In the first week of August, Santpoort is the setting for one of the oldest village festivals in the Netherlands.

Santpoort-Zuid and Velsen-Noord

In the southern and northernmost cores of Velsen, you will find a number of cosy, small-scale restaurants and cafeterias. In the station building of Santpoort-Zuid, there is a grand café where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or a delicious meal after a bike ride or a walk. Good fries are available at Frederik’s in Velsen-Noord, just next to the ferry.
